This used 2021 PRS McCarty in Trampas Green (Serial #0315030) pairs a 10 Top figured maple cap with a mahogany back. It’s finished in high-gloss nitro, and the scraped binding lets a natural maple edge frame the green top. The McCarty is named for Ted McCarty, the former Gibson president who mentored Paul Reed Smith, and it’s one of PRS’s most vintage-minded designs. This one weighs 7.8 lb.
The mahogany Pattern neck (7/8" at the 1st fret, 61/64" at the 12th fret) is a full carve that fills the hand. It’s set into the body, which ties the neck and body together for strong sustain and a warm, resonant attack. The rosewood fretboard has faux bone binding, PRS bird inlays, a 10" radius, and 22 PRS frets. Scale length is 25", with a 1 11/16" bone nut, and the neck is finished in high-gloss nitro to match the body. Up top, the rosewood headstock veneer carries an inlaid signature logo and a “McCarty” truss rod cover. Hardware is nickel throughout. The PRS Stoptail bridge with brass inserts anchors the strings, and vintage-style tuners handle tuning.
A pair of PRS 58/15 LT humbuckers delivers a vintage-voiced humbucker sound that is clear and open, with warmth that never turns muddy. The controls are a volume knob, a push/pull tone knob for coil-tapping, and a 3-way toggle. Pull the tone knob to get brighter single-coil sounds from both pickups.
